More Hook and Line

Had a great time playing with the Hook and Line Old Time String Band on Friday, October 12, for the Society for the Study of Occupation (an Occupational Therapy organization) at the Marriott Griffin Gate Hotel in Lexington, KY. Thanks to my friend Doris Pierce for inviting us to be the reception and dinner entertainment. And thanks to the Colorado State OT program for sponsoring the music! It was wonderful to see so many people dancing and tapping their feet! (From left to right: Nathan Kiser, Matthew Pianalto, Conrad Shiba, Stephanie Jeter.)

Hook & Line Old Time String Band at EKU Farmers Market

I had a great time fronting the Hook & Line Old Time String Band for the EKU Farmers Market on August 9! This special market celebrated National Farmers Market Week and brought together vendors from all three of the farmers markets that meet regularly in Madison County. Kudos to Tammy Cornett for putting together a successful event, with approximately 850-1000 people visiting the market.

Hook & Line is (as pictured, left to right) Nathan Kiser, Stephanie Jeter, Matthew Pianalto, and Conrad Shiba. In essence, we were a pick-up band. Nathan and Stephanie are both involved in and have taught for the traditional music program at Morehead State University, and regularly play in string bands of their own. Conrad is a retired Centre College professor who has played old-time music with various groups and taken student ensembles from Centre out on tour.I met these other fine musicians at the weekly old time jam at Broomwagon Bikes+Coffee in Lexington (Mondays from 6:30-9:00).  I've learned a lot by going to that jam and have met some truly wonderful people!

Welcome

Welcome!

This site is a hub for my other pages, and a place where I hope to share various updates and musings. When I'm not playing the banjo, I'm currently musing about why in the world I started playing the banjo. Stay tuned...
